Abstract Established primarily to improve weather monitoring across the agricultural regions of province, Manitoba Agriculture Weather Program (MAWP) began officially in 2005 with funding from provincial government for establishment a network 28 automated stations. The steadily grew 46 stations between 2007 and 2014 as result partnership local commodity research groups. In response flood 2011, more were installed 108 2019. are solar powered, scheduled maintenance is conducted at each station twice per year. parameters monitored include air temperature, barometric pressure, precipitation, relative humidity, soil moisture, radiation, wind speed, direction using research-grade sensors. observations transmitted via cellular telemetry every 15 min spring, summer, fall but hourly winter conserve energy supply due reduced daylight below-freezing temperatures. data can be viewed by public within 1 collection. used generate agronomic-related maps such thermal unit computation growing degree-days corn heat units well disease risk Fusarium head blight. Beyond agriculture, have been aviation investigation undergraduate course instruction among other applications.
